It has been another remarkably mild winter, and as a result we have been able to be out and about on the allotments without the need for ski jackets! Our kale has been fabulous this year, and we have delicious leeks and parsnips which are all adding to the flavours of our café soups. Winter jobs are all completed, with the greenhouses scrubbed and tidy, the potting shed looking lovely and all the paths cleared of weeds.
The town council gardens are also all tidy and the bulbs are now coming up, ready for some beautiful spring colour.
The biggest activity on the allotments recently has been the building work at the back of our shed. The windows are in place and we have 2 doors on the sides. What a difference it has made. At last we can spread out and have room for everyone to enjoy cups of tea. Please come in and have a look if you are passing.
The café has also moved, and we are now enjoying 10 Railway street. It is a much better building: the roof doesn’t leak, there is electricity on all the floors, an indoor toilet, and running hot water. Quite an upgrade! Our work in training and finding employment for people with learning disabilities has been recognised by HCC and we are currently in the process of submitting a National lottery bid together to fund Better Opportunities for people with complex needs.
As ever, you are more than welcome to join us any time at any of our sites. It is always lovely to see you, and we usually have a pot of tea at the ready!
